Veneers

Veneers are extremely thin porcelain facings that are glued to the anterior surface of the teeth to improve dental cosmetic aesthetic. They are especially used for the optical correction of the form, colour or small displacements of the tooth. For this purpose the surfaces of the teeth have to be prepared at first, which means that a 1mm thin layer is removed from the face or the cutting edges of the teeth. After a precise impression a filmy full ceramic layer is done out of a lot of layers of porcelain by hand that are glued to the teeth then. This kind of aesthetic adornment is mostly chosen in case of healthy teeth which means not filled or root-treated teeth because otherwise full ceramic crowns ought to be chosen in favour of improved stabilisation. Moreover the treating dentist has to judge the whole physiological occlusion because in case of distinct occlusal malposition, like deep bite or “natural gnashing of teeth” the durability is restricted.
The study called smile survey clearly displayed it: The decisive factor for private and occupational successes is an attractive smile with healthy, straight teeth.
- The result of 1000 interviewees: 94% regard the teeth of their counterpart during a conversation
- 85% think that nice teeth are a important factor at the first impression
- 90% are convinced to have more success at the other sex with an attractive smile
- 87% think that nice teeth are the reason for an enhanced self esteem and self confidence

Treatment steps:
1. The first step on the way to get a new Veneer consists of the examination of the current dental situation by the dentist. After he has decided that a Veneer is the right decision in this situation, he continues preparing the tooth.
2. The dentist prepares the tooth for the Veneer. In order to create space for the Veneer, he has to give another form to the tooth. After that the dentist make an impression of the concerned oral region. If you are not yet this familiar with it: A dental impression is a negative copy of your mouth made out of an elastic material. Thereafter this impression is poured out with dental cast in order to obtain a faithful copy of your mouth (a model). The finished model is send to a modern manufacturing facility by the dentist, where your computer calculated and individually adapted Veneer is produced.
3. After a short time the individual full ceramic Veneer is manufactured. Next your dentist tests whether the Veneer is seated immaculately. If you are satisfied with the result he attaches the Veneer to the prepared tooth with a special adhesive. That is all. Only three steps separate you from a nice new smile.
