Removable Braces
There are various types of appliances in this group. The aim of all of them is the aesthetic stringing together of the teeth and the correct rectification of the upper jaw to the lower jaw and thus the attainment of a good occlusion.
We distinguish 2 big groups: The first group comprises braces that are only applied to one jaw and work there. The other group contains appliances that comprise both jaws and which work bimaxillarly and thus a functional improvement can be attained.
Group 1:
These plates are very simply shaped, they nevertheless have the ability to correct a multitude of anomalies.
Components: The base plate various wire braces and other active elements are applied like springs or screws, and the active arch. The used material for the base plate is coloured synthetic that seats on the palate and exactly follows to the gingival dental edge.
This base plate is adapted by the dentist through grinding off. If this plate is thickened in the incisor region and a bite block redoubt is formulated the deep bites can be corrected.
If this redoubt is formed like an “inclined plane”, the possible overbite of the lower jaw can be corrected.
On the base plate the so called Adam clasps are located. These wire clasps support the attachment of the brace on the first molars. Furthermore a labial arch made out of wire can be found on the plate. This arch can proceed before or behind the incisors, depending on the desired function. Base plates can be divided into two or three basic elements that are linked to each other with stress bolts. Due to the distension the dental arch can be enlarged and thus crowding can be eliminated. Stress bolts are activate by the children’s own keys at home, like this a fast success is assured. These plates are named black plates, after their inventor. Also single teeth can be moved with black plates thanks to the accordingly attached springs. Naturally the plates are also available to narrow the dental arch. The principle is similar to the expanding plates, but they are applied in stretched state and due to the distension of the screws a diminishment of the plate and thus of the dental arch follows.
Group 2:
Bimaxillar appliances are also removable, but they exercise their function on both jaws at the same time. They have an influence on the formation of facial bones and growth. From it follows the application in the mixed dentition because growth can be exploited here.
Wrong influences of the muscles are eliminated and the formation of a balanced soft part periphery is benefited. Like this it comes to a normal biomechanical formation of the dental arch without deformations.
At first impressions of the jaws are made and a construction- , check bite. With the aid of these models the dental technician manufactures the corresponding appliance. There are a multitude of types, it would be too far-reaching to go into all types exactly. Just ask our specialists.
