Retention
The phase of retention comes after the active orthodontic treatment. It lasts approximately 18-36 months after the active phase. You need to understand additionally that the teeth are moved into a new position by the braces in a short period of time. They are not yet this firm in this new position and have to stabilise and adhere anew. For this serves the Phase of retention where various orthodontic devices can be applied. Mostly a lucent plastic splint is used that keeps the teeth in their new position. Another form is the glued lingual arch. This is a thin metal wire that is affixed to the inner surface of the underjaw because these teeth have the greatest tendency to move again. Also other forms of braces of retention are possible, where the mode and the exact period of time in which it is worn comply with the rectified malposition or rather the lifestyle habits of the patient.
