Sinus Lift

After a long adontia, it unfortunately occurs in the upper jaw that the maxillary sinus grows towards the oral cavity. That means that there is not enough vertical bone available for an implantation. In this case the implantologist can lift the sinus during an surgical procedure and replace the missing bone with compensatory bone material. This is later converted to own bones from the organism. This procedure can take place simultaneously with the implantation or has to proceed 6-8 months before the implantation. For this purpose the extent of the loss of bone is decisive.

What can be done in case of too few bone?

If the existing bone does not suffice for the implantation, a bone construction or rather a reparation can be made. For the implantation a bone thickness of 6mm is necessary and a length of the bone of at least 8-10mm (in the direction of the implant). If one of those figures is undercut, it has to come to a bone construction with sterile, tissue gentle compensatory bone material (e.g. Bioos), further on also body’s own bone can be extracted.
It often occurs in the upper jaw in the area of the side teeth that there is too sparse bone available. Because of longer adontia the bone is especially fast destroyed here, here are also the maxillary sinus located, so if the bone strength between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus does not suffice, the so called sinus lift has to ensue. At this the mucosa of the maxillary sinus is lifted and the compensatory bone material is imported. This procedure is a very good and safe method to boost the amount of bone substance. Whether the implantation can simultaneously take place with the construction of the bone depends on the anatomic conditions and can only be decided by the surgeon. In case of very sparse bone the bone construction has to take place at first, only then 6-8 months afterwards the implants can be applied.
