Extraction

For all patients the extraction might be the most fearsome among all dental treatments. Our collegues do everything possible to sustain teeth but nevertheless there are some cases in which the extraction of the tooth cannot be avoided. If it comes to extraction, our team efforts to arrange this without pain and the least uncomfortable consequences. In this spirit we use a novel anesthesia Ultracain DS Forte that permits such procedures to be painless. Also other surgical operations take place with this anesthesia and can be undertaken without any uncomfortable experiences.
When does a tooth have to be extracted?
• If the tooth is heavily affected by caries so that a reconstruction is no longer possible with conventional conservative or prosthetic aids (restorations, constructional systems, inlays, crowns).
• In case of grave gingival or periodontal diseases
• If sore granulation tissue or cysts around the teeth are found that are the causes for other diseases. (e.g. arthritides, loss of hair, eye inflammations, etc.)
• If a tooth is no longer curable with the aid of a root treatment, or if this cannot be accomplished correctly due to anatomic circumstances.
• Due to reasons attributed to orthodontics an extraction can be necessary owing to the lack of space
Which complications can occur?
An already weak tooth can break during the extraction. Then the roots have to be removed with special forceps and arms. In rare cases the root has to be removed surgically.
After the extraction of teeth that reach into the maxillary sinus, it can lead to the lancing of the maxillary sinus. In this case the doctor has to close it surgically at once so that it will not lead to an inflammation of the maxillary sinus later.
It rarely happens with lower molars that the nerve which lies below is hurt. In this case the patient feels numb in this region a few days long. But this numbness disappears again after a few days.
It can get down to a rejection of bone fragments which were located between the roots of the tooth. These are no leftovers of the dental root but are rejected by the bone alveole if they stood too loose.
How to behave after an extraction?
On the day after the extraction you are not allowed to smoke, to drink alcohol or coffee, nor are you allowed to ingest milk products.
The thrombus which is in the wound must not be removed in any case. Please do not clean or rinse it out, it is absolutely necessary for the uninterrupted wound healing, otherwise it can come to bad and painful inflammations.
If the wound might start blooding again after the extraction then do please bite on a clean handkerchief or bandaging material a few minutes long. Please repeat this process until the bleeding stops.
Important is the right mouth hygiene: All teeth have to be brushed but please be careful with the region around the wound. Aggressive tooth paste can lead to irritations.
In case of swelling you can cool the region with cold compresses from the outside.
After the operation you should rest, do no physically heavy work, nor to go in for sports.
The anesthesia is approximately 2 hours active. Please do not eat within this period of time to prevent possible injuries of the tongue or parts of the jaw.
After the extraction it can come to the occurrence of pain, in order to prevent this it is recommended to take pain killers 1 – 1,5 Hours after the extraction.
If no betterment has taken place within 3 days or the wound even inflames ulcerously, it is in your spirit to frequent a colleague of us.
If you have been prescribed any medicine that are for instance against high blood pressure or cardiac diseases, you also have to take those after and before the extraction. Please consult your treating doctor, if unclarities should occur.
